I am a sysadmin at Ziff Information Services, an outsourcing
company that hosts systems and computing resources for both
internal and external (non-Ziff internal) clients who use our
systems worldwide. Yes, we are one in the bunch of Ziff-Davis
Publishing companies.
As a high-visibility site, we have to deal with A LOT of break-
in attempts on a daily basis. Although we do have a group of
five that focuses on security issues, I am the designated
worrier for the group (you know, the one with the ulcers & no
liver; the one that keeps logging on all throughout the night
to make sure all systems are alive and ticking...and all that
good stuff as a result of all the worrying over break-in at -
tempts and having to deal with site administrators that could
not care less about security). Sigh...
So, security issues are right up there in my list of priorities.
While I am not always able to implement everything I wish I could
implement, I do keep up-to-date on security practices and utilities.
I can then use this information to make business decisions on what
is worthwhile implementing and what is not.
