*Hobbit* You might be interested in joining Firewalls mailing list. Jim Truitt ==================================================================== This is the first message to the brand new "Firewalls@GreatCircle.COM" mailing list. Welcome! The flood of subscription requests has trickled off, so I'm going to go ahead and open the list for traffic now. All messages to the list are being archived. A copy of the archive is available by anonymous FTP from host FTP.GreatCircle.COM, directory "pub/archive", compressed file "firewalls.Z". The copy of the archive available by anonymous FTP is updated every night at midnight local time (0700 GMT in the summer, 0800 GMT in the winter). At some point, I intend to add archive-access commands to the Majordomo server, to make the archives available to folks without anonymous FTP access. I'll let you know when that happens. For the record, this is a mail reflector, not a moderated mailing list. All messages sent to "Firewalls@GreatCircle.COM" (except for ones that the distribution software kicks out because they look like administrative requests that should have gone to Firewalls-Request or Majordomo) will be forwarded to the mailing list as a whole, without any editing or editorial comment by me. Also for the record, I take the view that anyone posting here speaks for themselves, not necessarily for the organization they're posting from, unless they specificly state otherwise. Please direct "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" messages to my mailing list server, "Majordomo@GreatCircle.COM". If you don't know how to use it, send it a message with the single word "help" in the body (not the subject line). Don't send routine stuff to me; I'll just send it back to you with a note asking you to send it to Majordomo instead. I've been simply _amazed_ at the interest in this list. It was announced on Saturday afternoon, there hasn't been any traffic on it yet, and I've _already_ gotten over 600 subscribers! One interesting fact is that about 20% of the subscribers are from outside the United States. Here's a breakdown of current subscribers, by top-level domain: 229 com 24 mil 6 nl 3 at 3 sg 1 bit 150 edu 20 org 6 se 3 fi 2 be 1 ie 39 gov 18 net 5 no 3 fr 2 br 1 il 35 au 18 uk 4 kr 3 it 2 ch 1 pt 24 ca 9 de 4 us 3 jp 2 dk 1 si United States 484 International 138 Total 622 Needless to say, setting up and running this list would have been a _lot_ harder without the Majordomo server to do most of the administrative work. If you're interested in Majordomo, you can get a copy of the software, as well as a copy of the paper about it that I'll be delivering at the USENIX LISA conference next month, in directory "pub" on FTP.GreatCircle.COM. Now, I'm going to sit back and enjoy the fireworks... The floor is open for discussion! -Brent -- Brent Chapman Great Circle Associates Brent@GreatCircle.COM 1057 West Dana Street +1 415 962 0841 Mountain View, CA 94041
