Last login is important for at least two reasons:

1)	The information itself and
2)	It involves every user in the system's security efforts.

The trouble is, more and more applications are blocking this from users in
the interest of user-friendliness.  If you believe my last login on my
popmail server, I haven't logged in in over two months:  the pop connection
doesn't count as a login, and even if it did, my pop client doesn't display
it.
