Hello. :) As requested, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Jill Bowyer, and I am a computer network engineer working in Washington, DC. I became interested in security approximately two years ago, but I have been a computer 'addict' since elementary school. I spent the last four years in the US Air Force (active duty) working in the Pentagon. I have accumulated quite a bit of information pertaining to computer/network security, including a massive collection of tools (like what Rick Weldon mentioned). Recently I ended my tour and joined the world of the civilians. My current project is to research, test, and analyze various security tools. (Sound like a big project? It is!) I am focusing on IDS for now, and I was pleased to find a mailing list dedicated to the topic. I have been coordinating a couple of my own security-oriented mailing lists for the last year or so. (I told them about the list as well; this may explain some of the recent subscribers!) I am very interested in any information anyone has on the status of some of the IDS's mentioned, such as W&S/STAR, Saturne (?), IDA, and NAURS. Jill
