You list asks that I introduce myself on my first posting - so here I am as a brand new list member, and I find that your list of intrusion detection systems doesn't even include CMDS (Computer Misuse Detection System) on it. (Flame on) And I figured you people would know all about the systems in widespread use today! Oh well, disappointed again. (flame off) Let's see, you have my name - I am a researcher, author of almost 50 professional publications mostly in info-sec, author of several widely read books on info-sec (The latest is titled: Protection and Security on the Information Superhighway just off the shelf this month published by John Wiley and Sons), a sysop since 1971 (I feel old when I say that), and an infosec consultant to government, industry, and anyone else who will pay the fare, and teacher of short (and not so short) courses on info-sec (one is scheduled for New York on March 29-30 - call 810-540-5610 for details - or see the WWW page for details then call that number to sign up). I also have a nice W3 page (http://all.net:8080) with full-text searchable on-line archives of many of the most popular on-line info-sec forums (someday soon perhaps even to include this one - if I can find the archive site) and automated vulnerability testing for over-the-wire attacks (which should also help people test their detection systems without having to set up a special test lab every time). I guess that fulfills the list introduction obligation as specified in the list introduction introduction. FC
