Saludos, Thats greetings in Spanish. I'd like to introduce myself, with your permission. I'm a professor of electronics whose minimal understanding of UNIX and TCP/IP has put him on the spot. I work for the largest campus of the largest private University in Puerto Rico. Our school has decided to move from an SNA based mainframe system to a TCP/IP+UNIX client/server system over the next several months. The administration has chosen to keep an administrative network separate from the wide open academic network connected to the Internet. A wise choice IMHO due to lack of experience with this kind of system here. However this state of affairs is not bound to remain so. As the one who was "volunteered" by our Head Honchos to oversee the transition for our campus, I can foresee increased pressure to provide some services to all those administrators. With that will come a host of security issues, hence my interest in IDS. Ramon De La Cuetara Inter American University (Metropolitan Campus) P.O. Box 191293, San Juan PR 00919-1293 Ph.
