Greetings!

I'm not sure if I sent an intro to this list or not so I'm going to do that now.
I am a 20 year old student at Luther College in Decorah, IA. My responsibilities
include being sysadmin for an HP9000/817,HP/UX 9.00 which houses our official
web page (http://www.luther.edu/) and, as of Feb., I will also be annointed the
co-sysadmin of 12-14 SGI workstations in our CS lab.

My interests are diverse, but mainly center on the area of system security and
cryptography. I pride myself in trying to maintain a system that is a secure as
is humanly possible while still providing a high level of openness. I have only
this year become familiar with programs such as Matt Blaze's CFS, and am quite
interested in the area of IDS in conjunction with programs such as CFS. I think
that this list has the potential of being a pool of information for the guys in
white hats (the good guys for those of you confused by the recent Hollywood images).

Other responsibilities include being a member of an on-campus organization that is
spending its time trying to crash the Telecomm bill and break open the area of
cryptographic exports. We aren't big and can't do a lot, but we truly believe
that information should be freely available and that, in this brave new world,
cryptography is not a weapon so much as a necessity.

I look forward to this list, if not as a participant, as an observer.
