Greetings!

I am adding a new responsibility to my rapidly-lengthening list, and would like
some advice. My new project involved about 12-14 SGI workstations on an open
network which are going to be used by our Comp. Sci. Dept. The idea is to setup
one machine as a server, or master, and then control the rest from that machine.
We also need to accommodate some file sharing. All in all, this will entail
running both NFS and NIS. What I am wondering is if anybody knows of good
books and/or resources to learn about NFS and NIS and securing both systems.
Also, what are some good IDS that are inexpensive (perhaps can find get on net)
and worth using that will help secure these machines. I forsee many security
holes running both NIS and NFS, but there does not seem to be an alternative.
I appreciate any advice/input anybody can give me, as this is unchartered
territory for me.

TIA!
