Hi! I guess I should introduce myself as well. Instead of just lurking in the background. There are many reasons why I was not introducing myself, but I guess I will anyway. I am a system admin at Legato Systems, Inc. For the most part I am the only unix/tcp/ethernet admin. Many people's jobs over lap into mine, there are other admin's, and experts to ask. So, I am not really alone at all. But I have been given some projects which include network security, routing, and our internet firewall to maintain. So, this is of particular interest. My boss is also very interested as well. We have been reading the firewalls mailing list for a while. I have been becomming unhappy with that list as it just has to do with firewalls, and they are one paranoid but not very productive group. Most of my security problems are internal. I need to protect systems and applications from gung-ho employees, and typo's more than we have ever had a problem with internet crackers. Loosing directories, root access, etc is not only a problem but a sensitive issue. So, I am looking for methods of protecting the whole net. I am especially interested in new software and papers on the subject. Currently, I am trying to sell suid and iss. ( Where is the latest ISS anyway? ) I am also trying to get cops running on ever system. I am pretty new to this part of sysadmin, and not developing any tools on my own. I really do not have time. Lately, I have not even had the time to read this mailing list. It does seem pretty quiet. Are there any new root access tools? Where is the latest ISS? Is there anything else like that? Is anyone logging the cisco denied in v10? Condor was caught. What did he get away with that threatens us? Are there any new tools to protect us from any crackers armed by him?
