As the welcoming message suggested, I am sending an introductory message.
I used to be a Telecommunications Operations Supervisor on a fairly large
network, then moved over to become a programmer working on the development of
financial systems. Got the opportunity to become a telecommunications engineer
and took it. Then the company was reorganized, followed by downsizing,
followed by rightsizing and now I find myself assigned to the thankless job of
network security (but its still a job). My network security training is
minimal and I find technology and systems changing so fast that I am often left
looking puzzled and scratching my head. Consequently, I hope to learn
something of value about network intrusion detection from this list.
