Hi folks, I'm a system administrator at the departement of computer science at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). I'm interested in any security releated topic. We started to make our systems more secure. At a university it's always the problem not to close the systems to much but keep nasty hackers away. Actually I'm a greenhorn if it comes to system security. That's why I subscribed here. Hope it will be one of the sources to get more infos to make our systems more secure. Recently we installed tcpwrapper on the servers and it's really amasing how many are tring to login on thoses machines, daily. One login attempt came from a machine in the Far East. I fingered that machine, saw that a user called 'guest' was logged in, did a 'telnet whatever', entered 'guest' at the login prompt and I was in! No password! - Incredible.. --- Caspar Arquint ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Caspar Arquint System Administrator ETH Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Dep.
